“Thirty Years Later – Not Bad For A Temporary Role”

By our Director of Sales, Steve Keary

In September 1991, I came out of my electrical apprenticeship with South Eastern Electricity Board as a qualified electrician to be told there was no work on the domestic and industrial side of the business. Instead, I was asked if I could temporarily help out on the newly acquired West Sussex street lighting contract. Thirty years later and, somehow, I’m still in the street lighting industry.

My Electricity Board journey took me from Electrician to Estimator, Connections Manager, Contract Manager and finally Business Development Manager. Then into Sales where I spent a short time at what was Lucy Lighting before starting with Simmonsigns, where, twelve years later, I find myself as Director of Sales.

I can honestly say that I have loved my time in this industry and have had the pleasure of working with some great (and some not so great) people. So, this is a thank you to all those I have learnt from and who have trusted and helped me get to where I am now.

I feel lucky to have worked for, worked with and sold to a fantastic industry.

Here’s to whatever the future holds for us all.
