Customer: Oldham MBC
Product: GPRS Pulsa Hazard
Location: Various sites around Oldham.
Oldham MBC had a requirement to close road that are dangerous due to snow or sever icy conditions. These include some outlying and rural roads. To close these roads at relatively short notice is difficult, so they have employed Signs that say “Road Closed when Lights Flash” and then use a school flasher to indicate when the roads are closed. These School Flasher were manually operated meaning that at a very dangerous time, operatives had to go to site and switch them on often in the early hours of the morning and obviously during extreme weather.
Following discussions with Simmonsigns it became obvious that the Flashing Lights worked well. It was the traveling to and from the sites that were to be closed because of snow or Ice, was a big problem and not only be inconvenient but extremely dangerous. Simmonsigns investigated the option to utilise the already popular GPRS Pulsa to solve the issue. It was determined that this Pulsa could be turned on remotely for a long period of time without an issue. It would simply need a small program addition and following discussions with the customer a 5 Days Max was agreed. Next issue was do all sites, some being quite remote have phone signals. As the Simmonsigns Sim Card is multi network this simply entailed a member of the Simmonsigns team and a member of the Oldham MBC team traveling to each site and checking the signal strengths. Once it was confirmed that all sites were suitable the solutions was in place.
Oldham MBC placed the order and Simmonsigns gave the council team training on the use of the portal and following delivery EON, the council contractor installed them across all site. Some required mounting vertically and some Horizontally to suit the requirements of the signage. All units have been installed since late summer and are working well as expected.
Matthew Nield of Oldam MBC says “ A complete solution to the health and safety concerns we had. Excellent after sales service by Simmonsigns during the implementation of the scheme”
Steve Hobson of Simmonsigns said “it was a pleasure to work with Oldham MBC and EON on this critical project. I am very pleased to be able to help the team at Oldham and keep them safe during whilst they try to keep the public safe.”
